Mariah Hanson produced her first Dinah Shore Weekend in 1991 in Palm Springs, California. In the Spring of 2015, The Dinah will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Plans are already in place to produce the most stellar Dinah in history.
E: This Years Dinah had an amazing line-up. You seem to have a knack for landing the ‘Next Big Thing’ every time! Seriously – Lady Gaga, Katie Perry and this year Mary Lambert, Tegan and Sara, and Iggy Azalea!? How do you always manage to showcase such amazing talent?
MH: I’ve been in the industry for a long time, so as a natural evolution I’ve developed a feel for what’s going to be a hit. So far the track record is pretty good. I do a lot of studying starting in August and follow artists and punch in a few elements that are required in order for me to seriously consider an artist, and if everything lines up, I make the offer. Iggy was a huge coup as people did not suspect she would get as big as she has. It’s exciting to have hand-picked her and then to see her rise.
E: Tell us about why there is so much buzz about this past year being the best Dinah yet.
MH: The line up was exceptional, so that always helps. But I think people have come to trust that they are going to get world-class entertainment in both performances and event production when they attend The Dinah. The atmosphere is such that it’s easy to make new friends. Often, I hear that people come from all over the world annually to reconnect with their “Dinah family.” Women look forward to The Dinah and of course so do I.
E: What is your favorite thing about The Dinah?
MH: The energy. It’s palpable. Women are so excited to be together, celebrating our lives in the most electric atmosphere. To look out and see a sea of beautiful women all with the happiest looks on their faces is quite a treat.
