A five-day celebration around the Women’s Final Four Collegiate Basketball Tournament will be hosted in this year in Denver, Colorado. Babes Around Denver and Hip Chicks Out are hosting SWISH: Women’s Slam Dunk Weekend, the unofficial party headquarters for the Final Four, March 30-April 3, 2012.
We plan on going to all the events: happy hours and viewing parties, a mega dance party, a live comedy show and a fundraising brunch. Women’s basketball fans, coaches and student-athletes will converge on the Mile High City for a celebration of women, girls, sports and community that is unlike any other for one of the premier collegiate women’s sporting events in the world, the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
SWISH kicks off Friday, March 30 with a warm-up event, a happy hour welcome Kick-Off Party starting at 5pm at Brooklyn’s Sports Bar, SWISH headquarters across from the Pepsi Center. The party continues Saturday, March 31 with a Tailgate Happy Hour at Eden from 4-9 as a pre-party primer leading up to Saturday night’s Fast Break Mega Dance Party at Exdo Events Center, featuring DJ Tatiana and SaaS duo spinning country, 70’s, 80’s, retro, Top 40, hip hop and house music.
On Sunday, April 1, Kelly McMurray and Merrill Lynch present Time Out: Equality Brunch at Hotel Monaco, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the National Center for Lesbian Rights and commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that opened the doors for women in sports. The brunch is designed by award-winning Panzano chef Elise Wiggins.
“We want to take some time to honor those who have paved the way for women’s sports equality,” says Dede Frain, founder of Babes Around Denver, “And also remind everyone that the journey is far from over,”
Wolfe Video presents the 3-Point Party Monday, April 2, a triple play evening of happy hour, comedy show featuring national comedian Julie Goldman and dance party following the show all at Exdo Events Center. Goldman is best known for her role in Logo’s Big Gay Sketch Show.
Tuesday’s basketball finals will be ushered in with the Final Tip Off all-day party bash at Brooklyn’s, SWISH headquarters. Over the course of the weekend schedule, events will feature drink specials, viewing parties, giveaways, and drawings for an Olivia trip for two to Vallarta Palace Resort in Mexico and a trip for two to Cozumel Palace Resort with Sweet.
“We have created an action-packed weekend to celebrate the Women’s Final Four with events that will suit all types of genres. Some dance, some comedy, some charity, and SOME basketball!” added Hip Chicks Out founder Silke Reuthlinger. “We want people to remember SWISH Women’s Slam Dunk Weekend as one of the most memorable Women’s Final Four Celebration Weekends they’ve experienced.”
The Women’s Final Four Basketball Tournament is expected to draw some 30,000 people to Denver over the course of the event.
